چکیده

In this paper, a simple DFT-domain pitch-scaling technique is used to extend the audio bandwidth of wideband speech (50Hz – 7 kHz) to the super-wideband range (50Hz – 12 kHz). Therefore, the higher frequencies of the wideband signal (6 – 7 kHz) are pitch-scaled with a scaling factor of four and the resulting, scaled signal is inserted into the 8 – 12 kHz band. A subjective listening test has been conducted wherein it could be shown that the new proposal clearly outperforms a previous method for artificial bandwidth extension which is based on statistical estimation techniques.

Codebook-based Bandwidth Extension with Side-Information

With the Bandwidth Extension (BWE) techniques it is possible to enhance the bandwidth of limited speech signals and provide backward compatibility with respect to the communication networks. Artificial Bandwidth Extension (ABWE) uses correlations between the low and the high frequency ranges, to predict a wideband signal outgoing from a narrowband signal [1, 2]. The advantage of the ABWE techni...

Subjective voice quality evaluation of artificial bandwidth extension: comparing different audio bandwidths and speech codecs

Artificial bandwidth extension (ABE) methods have been developed to improve the quality and intelligibility of telephone speech. In many previous studies, however, the evaluation of ABE has not fully reflected the use of ABE in mobile communication (e.g., evaluation with clean speech without coding). In this study, the subjective quality of ABE was evaluated with absolute category rating (ACR) ...

Evaluating Artificial Bandwidth Extension by Conversational Tests in Car Using Mobile Devices with Integrated Hands-Free Functionality

This paper describes an artificial bandwidth extension (ABE) method that generates new high frequency components to a narrowband signal by folding specifically gained subbands to frequencies from 4 kHz to 7 kHz, and improves the quality and intelligibility of narrowband speech in mobile devices. The proposed algorithm was evaluated by subjective listening tests. In addition, rarely used convers...

Artificial Bandwidth Extension of Narrowband Speech Signals for the Improvement of Perceptual Speech Communication Quality

In this paper, an artificial bandwidth extension (ABE) algorithm from narrowband to wideband is proposed in order to improve the quality of narrowband speech. The proposed ABE algorithm is based on spectral band replication in the modified discrete cosine transform (MDCT) domain with no additional bits. In particular, the patch index search for the replication band is restricted so that the har...

Beyond Wideband Telephony - Bandwidth Extension for Super-Wideband Speech

Driven by the market success of high-quality Voice over IP technology, the introduction of wideband telephony with an acoustic bandwidth of at least 7 kHz is meanwhile also foreseen for “traditional” digital voice communication services such as ISDN, DECT, or UMTS. While wideband speech addresses the basic requirement of intelligibility (even for meaningless syllables), the perceived “naturalne...
